THE EXTRAORDINARY, IN THE EVERYDAY

A lotus seed.
More than a pantry staple.

You may know it from a bowl of soup. Its story also lives in Chinese herbal tradition. Follow one small seed from the pond to the table—and discover why context matters.

From the plant

The lotus is more than its flower. A seed develops inside the green pod. Knowing the part of a plant is the first step towards knowing the ingredient.

At the table

Lotus seeds belong to a food story: soups, porridges and sweet dishes. Their name, preparation and texture are part of what makes an ingredient useful.

In the tradition

China’s 2002 food-and-medicinal-materials list includes lotus seeds, Chinese yam and ginger. A shared ingredient can have different uses in the kitchen and in traditional practice.

THE MEIHUA APPROACH

Good knowledge becomes
something you can do.

A name is only a beginning. Understanding the ingredient, following its preparation and knowing the purpose of a practice turn information into useful learning.

Look before choosing

Recognise the ingredient. Understand where it comes from.

Learn through a clear sequence

Build knowledge one step at a time, with room for questions.

Bring it into real life

Choose a rhythm you can return to, rather than an overwhelming routine.
